Geek It! Anime Newsbyte: First look at ‘Hirune Hime: Shiranai Watashi no Monogatari’

The hype for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics has already begun! From the director behind Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Eden of the East, Japanese director Kenji Kamiyama returns with an original animated film titled ‘HIRUNE HIME: SHIRANAI WATASHI NO MONOGATARI’

Set in the Kojima region of Okayama Prefecture in the year 2020, Kokone lives with her father who is obsessed with modifying cars. With the story focussing on the relationship between father and daughter, this relationship is put to the test when Kokone learns of a family secret whilst experiencing a strange recurring dream.

The most fascinating aspect about Hirune Hime is that the story takes place a few days before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. While 2020 isn’t that far away, the film feels refreshingly modern than usual as it features technology such as robots, tablets and even Virtual Reality consoles.

Here is a transcript of the teaser:

Kokone: Aw, it happened again! Why do I keep falling asleep in the middle of the day?
Kokone: I’m Kokone Morikawa. I live together with my dad who’s crazy about car modding.
Text: Kokone Morikawa: Mitsuki Takahata
Text: Director, Script: Kenji Kamiyama
Kokone: The same dream’s been on my mind lately.
Kokone: That uncomfortable but warm dream is connected to my family’s secret!
Kokone and Logo: Hirune Hime
Text: 2017. A secret door will open.
