Geek It! Otaku Out and About: Gundam Cafe in Akihabara
Akihabara is best known for its variety of otaku cafes — especially for its iconic AKB48 Cafe and Gundam Cafe situated right outside Akihabara’s Electric Town exit. During this Japan visit, we decided to check out the GUNDAM CAFE.
Back in 2015, we had some delicious Gundam grilled waffle with cream. Unfortunately, that doesn’t exist in front of the store anymore so we decided to pay the actual cafe a visit for some brunch.
Inside the cafe, the interior design was set up like a Gundam battleship. As you walk into the cafe, we see many cool things like props, figures, posters featuring cast signatures, and even a Gundam looming from above!
As it was Summer holidays, the menu featured shaved-ice drinks that you can get in exclusive plastic Gundam bottles — but it was already sold out. Instead, we opted for some refreshing soda drinks and munched on some breakfast hotdogs.
Once done at the cafe, you can get some last-minute merchandise (mugs, stationery, snacks, figurines etc) from the Gundam store next door.
Without a doubt, Akihabara’s Gundam cafe is one of Japan’s most popular Gundam fan-spots. If you’re out and about in Japan, we highly recommend you to check it out!
