Smash-Bros

Here at CtrlGeekGirl, we try to fit gaming into our lives whenever we can, whether we’re on the road or going to geeky conventions. With gaming titles like SUPER SMASH BROS, THE SIMS 4, POKKEN TOURNAMENT and DISNEY INFINITY 2.0 …. who isn’t excited?! CtrlGeekGirl takes a quick look at these soon-to-be major games — check out our thoughts below!

SUPER SMASH BROS (Nintendo 3DS and WiiU)

Super Smash Bros. (Nintendo 3DSWii U) has had us psyched for awhile now, and with the release just around the corner, we can barely contain our excitement! We’re still tossing up between the two versions — while both versions of the game feature identical gameplay and characters, there are various differences between the 3DS and Wii U versions.

The Wii U version feature high-definition visuals, whereas the 3DS version feature stereoscopic 3D graphics with cel-shaded outlines to make the characters more visible. Certain stages, trophies, and assist trophies are exclusive to each version of game, with the Wii U version primarily featuring elements taken from console titles and the 3DS version taking elements primarily from handheld games.

A whopping number of 38 playable characters from various Nintendo and third-party franchises have been confirmed to appear in Super Smash Bros, including Sonic the Hedgehog, Villager, Mega Man, Wii Fit trainers, Mii Fighters, Pac-Man and Shulk. Certain characters who could change mid-game in previous titles, such as Zelda and Sheik, are now playable as standalone characters. See a video preview of Shulk in action below!

The Sims 4

The Sims 4 is the upcoming fourth installment from The Sims series. Just like its predecessors, the life-stimulation game is a non-linear gameplay where players can control their Sims in various activities and form relationships. With this installment, the Create-a-Sim and Build Mode tools have been redesigned to allow more versatility.

You can now create your characters and design the way you want them to be, adjusting facial features and postures to great accuracy. Your sims’ emotional state play also play a larger role in the gameplay as sims can now multitask, and their moods can change at your command, changing the way a sim does a task by either being angry or totally excited.

New furniture have also been added along with neighborhoods and landscapes, and you can import Sims and other houses (that other people have made) into your game. As fans of the original Sims game, we are continuously astounded by how far the Sims have come over the many years — a must-own for Sims’ geeks!

Pokken Tournament

Forget about becoming the Pokemon Master — it’s time to become the Pokken Master! Pokkén Tournament is an arcade-style fighting game developed by Bandai Namco Games in collaboration with the Pokemon Company. Combining gameplay elements from Bandai Namco’s Tekken series with characters from Nintendo’s Pokemon franchise, it will focus on the element of action (as opposed to the technical gameplay of Tekken).

Both hardcore and casual fans will enjoy it, and players can perform various techniques taken from the Pokémon series, such as special moves and mega-evolutions. Three characters have only been announced so far: Lucario, Machamp and Blaziken. This arcade-inspired game feels like it could have easily been a game back in the ’90s or ’00s …it is about time the Pokken Tournament becomes real!

Disney Infinity 2.0 (aka Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes)

Collecting real-life Disney sculpted figurines to unlock characters in-game? “Hmm, probably a kids’ game.”

Those who dismissed Disney Infinity as a kid’s game may want to look again. Featuring original story material by Brian Bendis, Marvel Super Heroes (aka Disney Infinity 2.0) is the first step in the gaming collaboration between Disney and Marvel franchises. While Disney Infinity 2.0 is primarily a Marvel-centric experience, you will be able to bring in classic Disney characters from Disney Infinity 1.0 and fresh new faces including Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty), Merida (Brave), Tinker Bell (Peter Pan), Stitch (Lilo and Stitch), and Baymax (Big Hero 6).

Whether it’s a sneaky way to sell toys or a novel way to interact with gamers — this is going to be a major hit amongst all geek fans. Not only do you get to collect a bunch of cute figurines for your bookshelf or work table, but the more you collect, the more you will be able to play them in the Disney Infinity universe! Besides, who can say no to Marvel OR Disney?
